Had a wonderful “Experience Dao” Portuguese wine tasting and learning experience yesterday at Kokkari in San Francisco. The Dao is a region of delicious, high quality wines made from a variety of interesting grapes native to Portugal. In the center north-east, the Dao may be “the Burgundy of Portugal” for the lift and freshness yet concentration of the wines. ELEVATION and nearly all GRANITIC soils make the story here. The Serra de Estrela range to the east blocks Spain’s extreme heat while salty, fresh air from the cool Atlantic enters from the west to provide finesse and acidity.Result - wines of both structure and lift with balanced ripe fruit, minerality and floral notes. I truly enjoyed a quaffable bright sparkling welcome glass, beautiful Encruzado (white grape) wines 3 ways, and a range of palate (and nose) pleasing reds. Great learning from the incomparable Eugenio Jardim, scrumptious cuisine deliciously paired and fun company were a bonus. #daowines#daowinelover #WinesofPortugal#crushonewine#ilovewine#foodandwine#winelover#wineeducator#portugueswinesEugenio Jardim Allison Levine kokkari Estiatorio@vinhosdodao @winesofthedao VinhosdePortugal ... The perfect white wine? The Grosjean Petite Arvine (Rovettaz vinyeard), direct from the heights of the Italian Alps of Vallee d’Aoste, is made of the rare and indigenous Petite Arvine grape. It brings all the freshness of that cool climate with delightful layers of blossoms and fruit ripeness from vineyards on steep slopes so close to the sun. Bright yet juicy, refreshing with the perfect balance of roundness and weight.Aromatics of peach blossom open to flavors of white peach, lemon curd, and mandarin orange marmalade. The palate is both creamy and lively, finishing with crisp acidity that asks you for another sip. Thank you @CiaoBruto for carrying it here locally. #crushonwine#vinoitaliano#alpinewhite#petitearvine#valledaosta#ilovewine#wineloversGrosjean Vins Grosjean Petite Arvine, Vigne Rovettaz, Vallee d’Aoste DOC 2019 (13.5%)PS: I get an extra thrill because Valle’ d’Aosta is one of my old “hometowns” in Italy.
