For International Chardonnay Day, let us lift a glass and pay tribute…to wine drinkers’ sweetheart, a favorite among winemakers – arguably, the reigning Queen of Whites – Chardonnay, the grape, and her wines!
Tasting like a local- at Locals...Tasting Room that is! Locals showcases wines of at least 10 artisanal winemakers who hand-craft their micro and small lot wines with passion. If you’re lucky, a few of the winemakers like Lise or John will pop by to say hello and pour a taste for you. Just a few (of MANY) favorites included: - Drive Zinfandel 2018 Puccioni Ranch (way out Mill Creek): This is my kinda Zinfandel. An old vine field blend with P. Sirah, it has white pepper, spice and raspberry aromas with light bright fruit flavors of cherry and raspberry. Nothing jammy here; just delicious. - Dot Winery Rose’ of Pinot Noir, Russian River, 2020 This was a juicy one with nectarine on the nose and an almost creamy mouthfeel of strawberries and raspberries yet the balanced acidity shines through. - A. Toraño “El Bobo” Bennett Valley Grenache 2018 from the Jemrose Vineyard. Yum. This beauty delivers both red and blue fruit with aromatic herbs and is a delightful study in balance: a smooth mouthfeel with lithe body, good acid, and structured tannins that will allow it to age. It ticks all the boxes. All these wines do something kind of unique for me - They'll pair fabulously with food, yet also delicious on their own for long sipping. I daresay I’ll be back to Locals soon to try a few more..
