by Mary Beth Vierra | Dec 22, 2022 | Featured, Wine Education, Food & Wine, Lifestyle & Products
’Tis the season—for festive celebrations, grand family feasts—and questions about holiday wine pairing. What’s a great wine for the holidays? Which wine for my prime rib? How about my desserts? I recommend drinking seasonally. And this time of year,...

Not far from the soaring Alps of northern Italy lies a placid lake in a dream-like setting. At this northerly latitude we expect brisk days and a Continental climate. Instead, we find a pocket of Mediterranean-like climate, where grapevines grow amidst lemon...
Vino “Col Fondo”: Italy’s Ancestral Sparkling
by Mary Beth Vierra | Dec 12, 2021 | Featured, Wine Education, Wine Regions
Maybe decade ago, we began hearing a quiet, fizzy buzz about a sparkling wine style born of an ancient production method. You may have heard of it referred to by a few names — pét-nat, méthode ancestrale, Col Fondo, and Sui Lieviti, to list a few. That quiet...
Prosecco: The Pairing Possibilities!
by Mary Beth Vierra | Nov 27, 2021 | Featured, Wine Education, Food & Wine
When I’m asked to name my favorite wine — even my favorite wine right now — I likely won’t have an answer. That’s partially because I love too many wines at any given time. But here’s a response you’ll likely hear from me: First,...

A beautiful, delicious, fun evening at @ziggythewinegal’s “Kinky Whites” dinner event at @comstockwines Ethereal waning light tinting the sky pink over our whites was a gorgeous setting for brilliant wines and lively conversation. 6 fabulous winemakers came out to share their wines from light and lofty to charming to energetic plus a few bottle-aged beauties from fun bottles were circling and poured. The event supported Farm to Pantry with a food drive, and our own Les Dames d’Escoffier of Sonoma volunteered time as servers and crew to make the evening a success.
There were heavenly wood-fired pizzas, a delectable dinner, fun door prizes, and extra special pours.
Some of the wines we enjoyed…Albariño, Aligoté, Viognier, Sauvignon Musqué, Godello, Petite Arvine and more from Comstock, @ernestvineyards

I was honored to be invited to the Dry Creek Vally AVA 40th Anniversary celebration and panel tasting at Lake Sonoma. Though we marked 40 years of Dry Creek Valley as an official AVA, we honored over 150 years of winegrowing and winemaking in this narrow 16 mi x 2 mi valley.
It was an incredible, historic day recognizing and recounting the people, grapes and wine that have allowed this beautifully bucolic region to produce world class wines. Thank you to @sawyersommelier and @winegrowersofdrycreekvalley for pulling together an impressive panel of growers, farmers, vintners with both historic roots and an eye to the future. Chris, you lead the tasting and panel with aplomb, highlighting the true diversity of the winegrowing region.
Chris selected a series of panelists and wines that truly reflect this diversity, and quality. What wines we were able to taste! We began with a panel on Sauvignon Blanc, tasting wines in two different styles, then moved to a panel discussion and duo-tasting on the historic Zinfandel, followed by panels on Rhone Varieties, then Cabernet Sauvignon, then red blends. Thank you to the winegrowers and presenters at the panel tasting:
Mauritson, Dry Creek Valley Vineyards, Nalle, Teldeschi, Quivira, DaVero, Pedroncelli, Flambeaux, Rafanelli, Emmit-Scorsone.
A walkaround tasting of more stellar wines poured by their makers and growers from Dry Creek Valley, accompanied by delicious fare from Pilon Kitchen. Thank you @dry creek valley winegrowers @Christopher Sawyer for putting on a memorable day, and to the growers themselves (past, present, and yes future) for all the wines we’ve enjoyed from this beautiful region.
