A most inviting opening for my visit to the Anders A most inviting opening for my visit to the Anderson Valley Winter White Wine Fest. Joslyn and
Pennyroyal Farm hosted a quiet welcome reception nearing sundown at their enchanting working dairy farm and tasting room at the entrance to Boonville. They don’t make only the most gorgeous farmstead goat and sheep’s cheeses. Sarah Cahn Bennett has a masterful hand at winemaking, much sourced from the vineyards up the road at Navarro. The whites were stunning. At once graceful and delicate yet holding the perfect round palate weight and a bouquet of aromatics. Thank you for crafting white blends:  The “PinoTrio” - leading with Pinots Blanc, then Noir and rounding out with 26% Gris, and “Anyhow Blanc” - a rare Chardonnay-Sauvignon Blanc blend were gorgeous. And the Hammer Olsen Vineyard Chardonnay was stellar - delicacy with presence. All are reminiscent of the Alsatian whites I love - no surprise as this region has similar characteristics to that sub-Alpine Valley in France.
Pennyroyal is a must-stop on any visit to Anderson Valley or Mendocino. But with their ‘Taste of Place’ pairings on offer, farmstead cheese market, and patio views of their sweet animals and tours of the dairy, make it a destination.
